In October's kit, LOOKING GLASS, we featured the butterfly paper from this Tinkering Ink line. It was such a hit, we now have 2 collection packs (2 each of 6 papers), to give away.
I can certainly tell you that I'm definitely not 100% green, but I do try to do what I can. When I worked as a rep, I used to get lots of small boxes with samples each month. Instead of giving them to the recycling company, which would have been easy to do, I recycled them by giving them to my dad who manages a book store. He reused the boxes to ship books. It was a perfect arrangement: I got rid of my boxes and he didn't have to buy as many. Recycling at it's best!

ReplyDeleteWe recycle as much as we can at the house. Family of three and we usually only fill one trash can a week. Mostly though we just try to consume less stuff. You buy less, you have less to throw away. Also try to use as much re-usable 'stuff' that we can. Milk in glass bottles, glass 'tupperware' etc.

ReplyDeleteI love companies that make efforts to go green. I think that manufacturers should do an effort to go green with some of their packaging, which I find sometimes not so green... I do recycle, but scrapbook wise, there is not much I can do right now.

dh now drives our eco-friendly Honda Civic to work everyday instead of the SUV.

Lucky for me, my city offers curb-side recycling. So a lot of stuff, bottle, cans, magazines can go street side where it's picked up.

This is new to me... in more ways than one. October was my first SC kit and I have never heard of going green with scrapbooking. I loved that paper that came with the October kit. This looks like a very interesting line.

ReplyDeletewe recycle household plastics and have for quite some time. the newest "project" i am working on is recycling their piles of returned homework papers. i am creating cards, gift wrap & gift card holders out of them and am excited with each new creation that another paper has been given more life instead of being burned or going in the trash.

We use cloth grocery sacks, we use dishcloths in lieu of paper towels whenever we can, I pack his lunch components in reusable plastic food containers (bulk yogurt, etc.) instead of disposable plastic bags, we buy in bulk whenever we can because bulk packaging tends to be less wasteful, I use only "green" and natural cleaning products and I reuse those big diaper boxes to store clothes my kids grow out of. And as soon as we can, we want to buy a true electric car!

We recycle at home where we can. Many things I'm recycling at my new LO's ;O) But really, in Germany we are all great in waste separation. And I love the envelopes and paperproducts from a German Company named directrecycling. They take old maps from school and so on - and then they recycle the maps into envelopes and note paper eg.

ReplyDeleteWe ask for paper bags instead of plastic, recycle pretty much anything we can. We use Melecula cleaning products and I only buy refills on liquid soaps, Fabreeze, Downy, etc.
we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint too. i use junk mail envelopes to write lists. we make sure that lights are off when not in the room. we don't use tv for "white noise". we cook seasonal fruits and vegetables that we get from the local farmer's market. i am looking for ways to make my scrapbooking greener as that is my "green" nemesis.

ReplyDeleteOne thing we have started a few months bag to go "gree" is bring our re-usable bags everywhere. They are these great little bags from CHICCO bags that fold into itself so you can pack it in your purse...then when you need another bag, you just "unfold" it out and voila! you have a bag that you can use!! Very Green!!!

Something I do to be green is recycle at home! Paper especially. And when there are boxes or containers or what not from products, I tend to keep them rather than throw away to use them for something else :)

ReplyDeleteI bring my own shopping bag, use tupperwares when I pack food or order take-aways, use the bath water after bathing my toddler to mop the kitchen floor or wash the bathroom, and recycle cards by cutting them up and using them as embellishments for my scrapbooking.
ReplyDeleteWe recycle all the usual at the curbside, take water with me using the kleen kanteen thermos so I don't have to buy bottled water, and I recycle my scraps in the local newspaper bin. Those I just leave on the curb too in a bag. Also, we only use the recycled bags for grocery shopping. If we forget them, yep, have to buy new ones. You don't forget very often if you have to buy a more. We also buy only eco friendly cleaners. I love Starklee and Method (recycle those containers too!)
ReplyDeleteWe live in a place that doesn't recycle. Bummer! We recycled so much when we lived in Minnesota that even with a family of 8, we barely had any garbage each week. Not sure what we're going to do here. We did replace all the lights with "greener" bulbs and I combine all my errands so I'm not driving around as much.
ReplyDeleteWe recycle as much as we can: bottles, paper, all cartons marked for recycle, etc. I also try to walk as much as possible or use public transportation. We've replace all our bulbs to more energy efficient bulbs, updated our water heater. Fortunately I live in a place that does not require heat or AC for the most part. As far as crafting I try to save all my scraps or interesting junk mail for paper crafts, but I'm still craving all the new stuff on the market. So I try not to look :)

We recycle as much as we can. Clothes get passed on to others, inclduing school uniforms. Toys get sent to the annual school fete and we try to support local charity shops too.

Love those papers!!! ... we've taken to aggressively recycling everything we can, paper, plastic, cardboard, etc. but the most important thing my husband and I do to become more "green" is leading by example with our four year daughter ... we talk about everything from not throwing garbage on our earth (not so obvious to a four year old when there's litter on the side of the road) to emphasizing how and what we recycle at home. I figure we're making an impact on the "now" and the future.

ReplyDeleteI have two recycle wheelie bins and they are usually full each fortnight they are collected everything that can be is recycled clothes go to the bins in the supermarket car park.
ReplyDeleteI have two composting bins that the council were selling at a reduced rate.
My main bin is never full like it used to be 12 months ago.
We also get rid of other stuff by using the local freecycle or if it is too good for that good old e-bay comes into use.
Have even cycled to work this summer a few times when the good old british weather allows you too!!
I am making really cute flowers out of some of my little girld clothes. I use them as tags and I decorate my pages too. I am not using plastic water bottles either. That was hard for me to give up. I have one big water bottle I refill and I try really hard not to leave it places...So far I havent lost it..Thats pretty good for a girl who always losses the keys...Thanks Gloria

ReplyDeleteOur biggest effort in recycling is in preventing the use of the item in the first place. For instance, not using bags from stores, but taking our own tote bags to use, everywhere not just the grocery store.
The other thing we do is to buy very little in the form of chemical cleaners. You'd be surprised at what vinegar and water will clean. :)
We wash our windows with vinegar and water, turn off lights when not in use, use rain water for everything, buy local products with minimal packaging, shop with reusable cloth bags and recycle grey water for irrigation. I love hearing of co's doing their bit to go green.. :D

ReplyDeleteWe recycle all we can, have a compost heap in the yard, and use cloth grocery bags, but the smallest and easiest thing to change was that I've stopped taking plastic shopping bags for just one or two small items, just as easy to throw them in my purse.

ReplyDeleteOur family has recently started using fiber shopping bags and not using the plastic anymore. The key is to keep them in the car so you have them when you go shopping.
ReplyDeleteAlso, my scraps are now given to my grandmother's nursing home. The ladies make cards for their families once a week. They love scraps of beautiful paper!
These are just two things that our family is helping to eleviate trash in our landfills.
I am incorporating more existing vintage things in my scrapping to avoid buying the temporary "it" products. Sweden is very recycle oriented and all of our plastic, metal, light bulbs, glass and batteries are sorted at the local stations. It is a way of life, here.

ReplyDeletei am a nurse and i have discovered a love for all things altered... i have been saving the pull tabs from iv bottles and the tops from med vials to use on layouts. i have recently begun redoing a discarded lamp shade. there is no end in sight.
ReplyDeleteWe recycle everything at our house - no paper ma enter the trashcan - into the recycling bin! We also clean out every can, plastic bottle, and glass conatiner so that it will be accepted at the recycling plant. When I taught, we would go to the recycling plant each year and I was amazed at the things they turned away due to cleanliness. Now I am much more conscious of what we recycle. We also turn out all lights in any room we are not using, use green bags at the grocery store, and don't drink bottled water anymore!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to recycle is books. First I recycle them to friends and friends of friends to read. Then I either take them to the Budget Book store where they give you store credit for books which then allows you to buy other used books or I use them in scrapbooking projects.

ReplyDeleteOur township recently added mixed paper to what is picked up in curbside recycling. I put a recycle bin under my scrap desk and make sure that I now recycle all my paper leftovers. I also have been making a very conscious effort to recycle all the paper that flows into our house -- not just magazines and newspapers. I recycle everything from cereal boxes to school papers to junk mail. :)

I do my best to ensure that my eight year old daughter understands the importance of recycling and reducing and reusing....she is the face of tomorrow....we need to teach them to make the difference when they can!

For myself I use reuseable bags for grocery shopping, stopped buying bottled water and both dh and I now have water bottles that we fill at home to take with us to work or on the road. In terms of scrapping I collect chipboard from packages to use, try to use my scraps to make cards, and I have used the plastic packaging from products to make die cut shapes for projects. I am alwasy looking for more ways that I can be green in the wonderful hobby of mine.

beautiful papers! we have 2 garbage cans in our home - one for recyclables and one for the other. fortunately our county gives us 2 big garbage cans for outside to fill, which helps us to recycle as much as possible. we also have cut down our usage of the plastic grocery bags to almost nothing by using the cloth grocery bags. its a fun challenge trying to recycle as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteI have actually felt like I need to do even more despite the fact that I have long tried to be environmentally conscious. I bring reusable bags with me to the grocery store, I have recently decided to try to make my own laundry detergent, we recycle as much as we can, and lately I have been really into upcycling! I love reusing everyday "trash" items and turning them into works of art! It's way super fun!!!

We are trying to go more green too by using reusable bags when we shop, the kids and i use our junk mail and scrap paper for lists and scrapbooking, we have switched out our old light bulbs, my DD reuses her water bottle and some baggies for school lunch.I am actually making "Stuff" with the kiddies old clothes after they have been handed down and are at the end of the line.Dh views the Sunday paper online now instead of buying it.Dh sold his SUV now he drives a small car. WE're not 10o% green but we are trying to do our part.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter's art teacher asks all her kids to bring in recyclable items and then they use them in class...like plastic yogurt cups, paper towel rolls, take out containers. It's a great lesson for the kids!! The down side...now my daughter wants to save everything for future projects, lol!
my hubby and i have actually made a number of changes to our lifestyle in efforts to become more green. the biggest one is that we've done away with our cars. completely. we take public transportation (or our feet) EVERYWHERE, so it is better for the environment and we get the added benefits of saving money by not having a car payment, gas, or insurance. and we're exercising so much more, so it is helping to get us back in shape too. on top of that one major change, we're also doing the little things like using reusable canvas bags whenever we go grocery shopping, using energy efficient lightbulbs, and saving all of our cans and bottles for recycling. our small apartment complex doesn't have recycling bins (not sure why), but we've been diligent about taking our recyclables to the nearest drop-off on a weekly basis. we use our air conditioner only when it is really necessary and spend a lot of time with our windows open to let in the breeze. we've always been thrift store shoppers, where we've been lucky to find some great deals on some new-to-us furniture and storage solutions.

ReplyDeleteEver since I bought my Statue of Liberty with a broom 'reduce, reuse, recycle' poster in 1988 I've been into recycling - glass, paper, we now have a 'green bin' which is collected fortnightly and recycled and a composter which helps us to grow our veggies. Old clothes become floor rags and old sheets become painting covers. I also keep all my scrapbooking scraps to use on cards or other LOs - can't bear to throw things awa! :)

We use cloth shopping bags exclusively. We also have always been major recyclers. The recyclilng people had to bring us an extra bin because we recycle so many things on a regular basis!
ReplyDeletei am a recycling fanatic.....you name it, it gets recycled. i also purchase "green" laundry detergent, dish soap and cleaning products. i have switched light bulbs and bought an HE washer and dryer which use less water and electricity and are much more efficient. my thermostats are set for 68 and on my next trip to Lowes i am going to purchase programmable thermostats so that will be even more efficient.

ReplyDeleteIn our city, we have 3 bins to put to the curb:one for regular trash, one for paper, glass, recyclable matters in general, and one for compost. Let's just say that the regular trash is never full and we sometimes skip a week!

ReplyDeletei'm going to actually start using my "green grocery bags" at the grocery store to cut down on the number of plastic bags i take home.
We try to recycle and use totes when we shop whenever possible. We use cloth napkins instead of paper. We are also thinking of putting in a small vegetable and fruit garden as we already have many herbs in a potted "garden" (they are wonderful to cook with!). I am so excited to see the kit and add-ons as a new subscriber!

We also recently purchased a hybrid vehicle.

ReplyDelete- we bring our own grocery bags (clothe/canvas type) and not ask for plastic bags
- we stopped using Paper Towels at home and now using more canvas towels/dish clothes we get from my bro who is a nurse
- we recycle all cans, newspaper, plastic containers, etc.etc.
-we're not buying bottled water , and have our own drinking jar with filtered water
-all junk mails/paper are being shredded
-cardboard i get from scrappbook stuff..i recycle them by using them as ATC cards! Cool, huh?

ReplyDeleteLoving those papers! I'm a pretty green girl. I recycle everything, including all scrap packaging and bits of product. I use my own bags at all stores. I purchase local produce as much as possible. I use only natural beauty and cleaning products. Tight now I'm working on reducing plastic in my home and when I can afford to I will switch to a hybrid vehicle.
ReplyDeleteWe've replaced our kitchen table, living room, and outdoor lights with Fluorescent bulbs and they are lasting way longer than the old bulbs. We recycle paper and plastic. We try to buy bulk size products instead of individual packs/bottles to cut down on packaging waste.

ReplyDeleteAs for my way of being green...I have a small Ebay business selling rubber stamps and stuff so I collect every piece of bubble wrap i can get my hands on-I refuse to actually BUY bubblewrap when there is so much of it thrown away every day-my friends COUCH came completely engulfed in bubble wrap for goodness sake!!

We recycle, take our bags to the stores when we shop, collect rainwater & greywater for garden(we're in drought area), I'm a vintage store buyer & repurposer.... We'd love to have a hybrid car or alternate heating/electricity but but for now we do what we can

ReplyDeleteI'm trying to get away from using plastic at the stores. They take almost 30 years to break down. I can't stand that. And there are plenty of uses for brown bags. ( they make great wrapping paper). I also like to support companies that are doing "green" things. I can't change the world by myself, but I can do mypart. Thanks for the giveaway. I love their papers.
ReplyDeleteThe main thing I have done is purchase those reusable grocery bags to reduce the use of plastic ones!! One small step!
ReplyDeleteWe recycle the usual - plastics, tin, aluminum, newspapers, bottles. We also recycle boxes (i.e. cardboard) and shred paper to be recycled. I use paperbags at the grocers so that I can reuse them for our recycling sorters. It's not much but we are making an effort.

We have curbside recycling so we do that. Reuse boxes all the time (over and over - they get sent back and forth during online scrapbook swaps!!). We have a large compost bin in our backyard. We use those new "green" lightbulbs.

We are great at recycling in my hometown . We have a blue bin for recycling , a green bin for garden waste and a composter! All provided by the local council free of charge! I also really try hard to eat British to save on air miles. But the same doesn't apply to my scrapbooking. Studio Calico is by far the best!
ReplyDeleteInstead of recycling all my magazines and catalogs, I give them to my sister in law for her class to do projects or I give them to my daughter's preschool class to cut out pictures for their projects.
ReplyDeletei've taught my son the importance of recycling by collecting plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass bottles. we take them together to the recylcling center and he gets to keep the redemption money as a reward for his efforts.
ReplyDeleteI refuse bags at the checkouts, or I bring my own if I know I will be getting a lot. I also carry a refillable water bottle around. I work at a used bookstore and the company is changing the way they do a lot of things to become more green. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway, love those papers!

ReplyDeleteWe are trying to do out part to go a little bit more green each day too. We bought cloth bags to use at the store. We try to group all necessary trips into one trip to save on gas. I reuse envelopes and packaging all the time for scrapbooking and other creative endeavors. I pack my husband's lunch in reusable containers. We save boxes to ship things in or to be used for gift boxes. We repurpose used items or buy vintage to reuse what is already here instead of creating more. Wow. I could probably go on and on. Thank you for the awesome giveaway!!!

We re-use shopping bags & I have a huge bundle of aluminum cans to take to the recycling station. Accept/pass on hand-me-down clothes. Give my daughter my scrapping leftovers :).

I recycle every possible element of waste that is recyclable. Recycling is very important to me. Also, we drink TAP water. Yes, that's right.
ReplyDeleteThere's so much that I should be doing to be more "green" but as a start we also combine our errands so that it's just one trip to town instead of many. We buy in bulk for two reasons, less packaging and the fact that we don't get the plastic grocery bags at Sams. If we do go somewhere that we get the plastic bags, we reuse them all as trash liners. Have stopped getting the newspaper although, can view anything I need online anyways. Stopped all magazine subs but if I do get a magazine, I pass it along, same with scrapbook scraps. Instead of buying bottled water all the time, we now purchase one 24 count pack (our water is awful here) but we reuse the bottles all month and sometimes more (just wash them out each time). ReplyDeleteI try to buy more whole foods rather than the processed, packaged stuff. We try to drive less, recycle more and try to buy handmade rather than "made in China".

ReplyDeleteWe recycle as much as we can, including food packaging. We have two big green recycling bins that are full every week.
ReplyDeleteWish I could post a photo to show ya, but besides collecting all of our aluminum cans, plastic grocery bags, recycling cardboard boxes every week and turning them into recycling plants here, I have taken up glass jars. I wash them, clean off the labels, spray paint the lids and use them for embellishment storage.

ReplyDeleteOur family thought it was important to start becoming less wasteful and more green conscious a while ago. I actually am in the midst of a mini album on our venture to "becoming green" this past year! All of the items used in the album are made by reusing items such as cardboard, rope handles from shopping bags, and packaging as well.
ReplyDeleteMy family and I recycle in lots of ways. One of the simple things that we do is give our empty boxes and containers to our Kindy for the kiddies to use in their activities.

Love this paper line! Our city offers recycling at the curb with our weekly garbage collection and we take full advantage of it - paper, plastic, junk mail, and boxes all go into one container. There is also a local charitable organization that will come to our home to pick up our donations of unwanted items. It feels good to involve our children in doing our part to help protect the world we live in.
ReplyDeleteI try to recycle as much as I can... but I know I am not the best at it. We recycle plastic, and pop bottles, and boxes. I reuse any plastic or paper bags from stores that I can, and I have those green bags I try to use as often as possible. It is rare now-a-days for me to come home with store bags (I even use them at the mall!). My eyes were really opened to reusing bags on my european trip this past April. I was surprised by stores charging for plastic bags - but I think it makes sense and they should do it here as well.

We rinse out any plastic pop bottles, and since I work at a pharmacy... we go through at least two huge garbage bags of plastic drug bottles a week. We also break down and try to reuse any cardboard boxes we get. (esp since we are moving the whole pharmacy tomorrow!)

We recycle everything after our children came home from school one day last year and asked us why we didn't...we relized we were just being lazy! It's amazing how much trash you don't have when you recylce!!!

We recyle glass, metals, plastics, papers... we reuse, repurpose items (my ribbon and button stash are in food jars), we try to avoid buying things in plastic, composting is important, car pooling when we can, public transport when we can, bring reusable bags to the market, support our local growers and go for "vintage" verses new. We also pass along our kids clothing and toys once they have out grown them. My favorite is savaging furniture and found objects and creating art and beauty out of them.
ReplyDeleteWe traded in our gas guzzling SUV for a hybrid, bring our own water to work (so we don't buy water bottles) and we use canvas bags at the grocery stores instead of using the plastic bags :)
ReplyDeleteI have changed almost all of my lights at home to the compact florescent lightbulbs. I also recycle any and everything that you possibly can! I also try to pass the recycle word on to everyone I know. Love that paper!
ReplyDeletebecoming green...well we parked the SUV and bought a new car to save on gas. I have been using my cardboard boxes on layouts. We bought those canvas bags to use at the grocery store. Dh carpools so we save on gas that way too. I'm sure they are more but those are on the top of the pile.

We too recycle every product we can, and I donate all the clothes, and household products we are done with. I'm also going to seal the windows to try to use less energy this winter. I'm also bringing a reuseable shopping bag with me, and I'd love to get a refillable water bottle. Great ideas ladies! and fab giveaway SC!

ReplyDeleteMy husband would be proud to say that we keep our house at a ridiculously low temp. in the winter and walk around in head-to-toe sweats so that we don't have to burn through as much propane. :) And we invest in good blankets!
ReplyDeleteWe get reusable shopping bags at whole foods and stop and shop. Neither one of us (me or DH) drive to work, we both take public transportation. Our Co-Op requires us to recycle pretty much everything. We are on our way to being green, just not 100% there yet.

It's really easy to be green when living in Colorado, everyone is super conscious. I use my own water bottle now, ride my bike to school and buy as little as I can. :)

ReplyDeletei sort my garbage, i eat organic food as much as possible, i use public transportation as much as possible, i try to use the less energy i can, i try to freecycle what i don't need anymore. i use green products for the house (washing powder for example) and organic or mineral make-up. and i use only cruelty-free products. i use washable diapers for my baby. and i try to explain to my friends that becoming green is better for everything : for the planet, for your health, for your money too !
i'm very happy that studio calico is making efforts to become green ! :o)
Great papers!! We do our best around here with recycling and composting, using low efficiency light bulbs, turning off lights not is use, etc. etc.

We've been using reusable grocery bags; we recycle paper and plastic; we buy laundry and dishwashing detergents in the big containers and just refill the little dispensers.
ReplyDeleteI actually work in a Green building. It's the only privately owned LEED certified building in the state. We do everything green here.

ReplyDeleteWe now recycle glass, plastic and paper (thankful our city got on board!!) I also keep a large collection of resuable bags in the truck. We use them for all shopping trips, not just the grocery store. :)

ReplyDeleteWe recycle everything that we can. I am making all our halloween costumes from recycled clothes. I alter them with paint, fabric, sewing etc. I told my 3 kids that we could not buy premade costumes thatfall apart and end up in the trash.

I save practically everything I can that is worthy of putting into a greeting card creation or is safe for scrapbooking. Like clothing tags. I also go to Wallpaper stores and ask for any sample books they are going to throw out. I use the wallpaper books for making cards. The most recent item I made was a flower. I layer doilies-wallpaper circles-a circle cut from a page out of an old book, Then glue a glittered button in the center. Td Da! It's a beautiful flower for a card. Wallpaper is prob too acid for scrapbooks. So I just make cards with it.
ReplyDeleteWe try to be as green as possible, I keep small jars and put self-made jam in them, I keep cardboard to make small albums and canvases. And we also make as much as possible the food form basic with good - prefarably ecological - ingredients, and we avois taking many pastic bags when shopping ;)

We take bottles and cans, paper, cardboard, glass jars and (occasionally) tin cans to the recycling depots, turn our thermostat down, and use re-usable bags for grocery shopping (and/or bring back the plastic ones we use). I like these papers! :)

ReplyDeleteI definitely try to be as green as I can ;) I only use Enjo house cleaning products which only use special cloths with water and there is no need for chemicals etc. I also only buy certified organic skin & body products and I recycle bags and boxes too.

ReplyDeleteIf you ask my Dad he would say I do to much. I recycle everything and only throw out excess food. which is rare because I make exactly what we will eat for that meal. I have even changed all the light bulbs to the energy wise ones. And we limit our gas intake. If we can get there by walking, we do. We also bring our own bags when we shop at any place. And we by all energy star electronics. In the end all that I and my family do is good for us and mother earth. Thanks;)
