my stamps and alphas looked bad, wait until you see how I mistreat my paper. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE paper...so much so that I hoard it. The problem that I have is that I have trouble remembering what I have because of the way I have it all stacked. Check this out...
This is my stack of patterned papers. Now I will admit, I'm a little spoiled because I have the opportunity to keep any extra paper that we have left over once we have packed all of the kits. I have more than I can possible use, especially since I never know what it in my stack. The sad thing is that I have another stack of cardstock that looks just like the one above.
So here is today's challenge.....paper storage/organization. How do you do it? Are there good containers out there or are racks the best way to go? I tried to use the stacking letter trays that you get at staples, but the paper hangs out the front and then it is bowed....I HATE that!
Post a comment about how you organize your paper stash and I'll draw a random name tomorrow evening for a free add on. I'll shoot for 5pm CST, but don't hold me to it....sometimes I run a little late ;)
Thanks again for all of your tips on stamp/alpha organization...I can't wait to dig into those baskets of chaos and finish up with binders of organized bliss!!
I use Cropper Hopper paper holders and place them on their sides on my shelf so they easily slide in and out...I seperate my paper out by company--it's the easiest way for me to find it all!
ReplyDeleteHey Lorie, I use the CM "Pods" you can order them from a consultant... they are awesome with hanging folders that sit at an angle so you can see what you have... of course I have way more paper than fits in those so I have my BG and some misc. papers in the cropper hopper clear paper holders on the same shelves, they are right behind where I work so I can always turn around and flip through them when I need something special!
ReplyDeleteI actually store my paper by manufacturer on the peg board plastic shelves that stores use! Love it! I feel so organized when I look at my paper - now my punches are another story! Still working on those! :)
ReplyDeleteBig Binders...Oversided and labeled Binders keep my entire paper stash organized on my shelves!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Michele B.
Mine are stored in drawers. And sorted by color. I have pink cardstock, followed by pink pp, red cs, red pp, through purple, the white, cream, black, brown in that order all cs first and pp second. And then I have a section of multi color pp that is just too colorful to put in one color. And I have trained myself to look through that first and then go onto the color areas (since that is how I scrap, by color). HTH
ReplyDeleteI was like you and mistreated my paper even though I was a paper addict. But then I started using the plastic dividers and divided my paper up by company. I feel I have a better idea of what I have and won't over buy (can you do that??) and it is not mistreated anymore!
ReplyDeleteI have learned that paper is a hard thing to organize! Finally, I decided o keep it 'loosely' sorted by manufacturer and I store it in the CH vertical files and just tucked into a cube in my Ikea shelf vertically on it's own. It works for me.
ReplyDeleteBy color in stacked wire storage cubes from Target.
ReplyDeleteRight now my paper looks a lot like yours! I am hoping to get some great ideas that will work for me on these comments. Thanks for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI have two big blue fabric containers that I bought at Ikea. Paper fits perfectly there and the container fit perfectly on my Expedit shelf (also from Ikea).
ReplyDeleteIn one container I have my cardstock organized by color and my paper scraps organized by color, type and size.
In the other container I have my paper organized by manufacturer. I have created little tags to divide each manufacturer. You can see pictures in my blog, I have just organized everything!
I store most of my paper upright in a large tote, with dividers. New stuff goes in the front, but eventually gets filed, either by color, or by line, if there's I line I am particularly fond of.
ReplyDeleteI wish I has a better way to store it, but right now I keep all my cardstock in a cropper hopper grouped by color and then all my other paper grouped by company (or what I bought together in another one. I wish I had room for a rack though - it seems like the way to go!
ReplyDeleteI have a WRMK page planner that I have some collections in (PP and coordinating embellies), but I quickly outgrew that. Righ now I have extra PP stored in two SC boxes!
ReplyDeleteI use Cropper Hopper Vertical storage and dividers. I sort my paper by color -- solids in one divider, patterns in the next. I put the containers in my wire cubes with extra wire dividers to give support to hld them up. Any papers that I want to save as a collection, I put in my ScrapRack. You can see pictures on my blog if you go back through some older posts.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any good advise for you--my patterned papers look like yours. I do use the cropper hoppers for my cardstock, but my patterned papers get lost in them too. I'm hoping someone out there has a solution for me.?
ReplyDeleteI use those clear-view stackable drawers. I love that you can remove the "lid" and stack them all on top of each other. I then sepearte things out by color mostly. I tend to think more like that so it worked well for me. I also did this for cardstock. So, I tend to have 3 drawers per color:
ReplyDelete1.PP
2.Cardstock
3.Scraps (some are mixed since I may not use alot of certain colors
Good luck!
I keep all of my cardstock separate from patterned papers. I use Cropper Hoppers for most of my patterned paper and divide it by kit or manufacturer. Whatever I think "goes" together.
ReplyDeleteI don't keep a lot of paper on hand, but I store my paper in 3 large Fed Ex Shipping boxes (repurposed from the office trash!). I cut them so that they are about 9 inches tall then wrap the ends in pretty paper! I keep all of my 8.5 x 11 papers in one, then all of my patterned paper in the second (just all lumped together), and all of my cardstock in the third (in ROYGBIV order). It works great, was completely free, and they sit on my bookshelf right above my desk. I like having my patterned paper all together because it allows me to see all that I have as i thumb through it. Scraps all get lumped into a top from a paper box!
ReplyDeleteOkay...up until about 4 weeks ago that used to be me as well! I also tried a clear storage bin that fit my paper, but i still couldn't see it. I think that cropper hopper is the way to go! Since i've got my paper standing up, it's way way easier to sift through, and i'm using my paper! :)
ReplyDeleteI use vertical cropper hoppers for my cardtsock (by color) and scrap n cube horizontal shelves for my patterned paper (by mfr). But I also have those oversized closed containers that re larger than 12x12 for about 7 mfrs that includes patterned paper and some of their embellies. It is not the best system but it has worked for me so far. :)
ReplyDeleteI store my paper and cardstock in papertrays, so I cand organize them better without getting broken... Look here
ReplyDeleteI use the Cropper Hopper paper holders. Cardstock and older patterned paper by color. Kits in dividers that come with the CH paper holders. I print the kit photo each month and stash that in front. Love having the kits all together.
ReplyDeleteI use the Cropper Hopper paper holders and separate them by manufacturer and style/color. For example, if I have a lot of "ledger" paper by various manufacturers, I would name the divider "Ledger" and organize them by color (from light to dark colors). With SC kits, I keep them in the flat, 12x12 Art Bins separated by using their clear dividers. When I use most of the kits' contents...I place all of my scraps in its own 12x12 Art Bin.
ReplyDeletemine is separated by company then collection in one of those rolling towers with like 20 shelves. its pretty handy :)
ReplyDeleteI use a combo-Sterilite craft tower that has the 7-12x12 containers. I put everything in there by mfg. For cardstock I organize by rainbow-ROYGBIV in several Cropper Hoppers. Works for me! Good Luck.
ReplyDeleteI have a nice long box shelf that hubby built for me. It's about 13"x13", so I have all my paper sorted by brand (with a few theme sections) & cardstock sorted by color. All the paper is vertical & divided by Cropper Hopper dividers. I keep a small crate next to my desk for new paper or paper I am too lazy to put away. Organizing my paper was the BIGGEST organizing job I have ever done!
ReplyDeleteI love the Alex Drawer unit from Ikea - it has about 8 drawers that I use for my older kit papers - for newer papers I keep those in a plastic 12*12 bin from the container store.
ReplyDeleteI store my patterned paper by Manufacturer, color, theme and things like graph, notebook, shape (like from MM lines), transparencies, etc. I store all my cardstock by color. I store all my paper in the 12x12 paper plastic bins I got off of scrapbook.com. pics are on my blog: http://landerson.typepad.com/snapshot/2009/02/my-new-scrap-studiooffice.html
ReplyDeletei use the Scrap-eze Vertical Storage Organizer!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ebbcreations.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_26&products_id=1733
(this link is for the white organizer, but they also have it in pink and purple)
I LOVE IT! it has 6 folders for paper and cardstock, 1 folder for scraps, and 1 page-in-progress folder. And the thing about these folders is that they have a flat bottom, where most folder bottoms have a "V" shape.
i have my paper divided by color, so its easy to just pull out the folder for the color that i want and search only those colors til i find the specific one that will work. and i dont really forget what i have because i look through them as im searching, so i look through them alot.
I separate some of my PP by manf. This paper is in rolling file carts in 12 x 12 hanging files under a table behind my desk.
ReplyDeleteMy kits are in the 12 x 12 veritcal paper holders by Cropper Hopper on a shelf behind my desk. Once the kits are down to the bare minimum - I break them down to mfg.
I also have some paper and embellies in 12 x 12 clear iris boxes - these are organized by holiday/season (Christmas, Valentine, Halloween, Spring, Fall and so on). These are in a cube shelving unit across from my desk.
My cardstock is sorted by color in 12 x 12 Cropper Hopper vertical files on a bookshelf.
Yep - gots LOTS of paper - my obesssion!!
For my cs, I use the white 12x12 organizers that Target sells. I store the paper vertically and organize them by color. But, I can understand about the "bowing" problem, because some of the sections that aren't quite full (yellow, purple) have started to do that. I'm contemplating swithching them to be horizontal (stacked) setup, although my husband would have to help w/ that one, so that may be more of a challenge. For my patterned paper, I use cropper hopper storage, and my kits are stored in clear plastic bags vertically on a shelf. (They're pretty crowded in there, so no chance of bowing there...*sigh* gotta work on that hoarding thing.) ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
I'm another fan of the vertical Cropper Hopper holders and dividers. I sort mine out by company and then lines. In all honesty, since I've been getting SC kits...they are all I've been using. The paper never seems to get to the CH holders, because all I have left are scraps. OR, I hoard the entire kit ; )LOL Good luck with organizing Lorie!
ReplyDeleteHi Lori! My pp is sorted by mfg and is stored in several Vertical Cropper Hopper paper holders. I've had them for a couple years and they work wonderfully for me! I have them all labeled by mfg and the holders also keep the paper nice and flat with not crinkled edges...
ReplyDeleteThe cropper hopper for me. It works great. I sort mine by company.
ReplyDeleteKathyv
i love to use the clear iris boxes to store my sc kits, paper included. (really good way to keep paper from getting smashed, dog-eared, etc.) i have one box for each month's kit and add-ons, even bulky little embellishment packages will fit! then i stack them in order with the months labeled. i'm also printing off the kit pictures to put on the outside of each box so i can see at a glance what's inside.
ReplyDeletealisyn
I have those 3 drawer units - forget who makes them....have 4 sets of them. I have 2 sets with plain paper, and the other two are patterned paper - sad to say some are still in their packaging.
ReplyDeleteScraps (which are half sheet or less) are in one of those expandable folder file sorted by colours. If I need just alittle piece, that's where I look first.
I have a hard plastic crate with hanging file folders. I tend to scrap by colour, then pattern or event (holidays, sports etc) so they're all separated that way. Then I grab the file I want (say flowers) and can flip through to find the best piece. Easy peasy to sort and clean up..and it sits by my feet under my desk where I can easily reach it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I have all my paper stored in Store In Style cubes. My cardstock is in one cube with shelves, and my patterned paper is in the file drawers. It is sorted by color and other by theme (Halloween, Christmas, etc.).
ReplyDeleteHey Lorie....I have a variety of ways..I have cropper hopper verticals, CM "pods" and also I got lucky enough to buy a the clear plastic 12x12 trays from a lss.
ReplyDeleteI love the pods for traveling they hold solid cardstock and pp that I offer for sale at the crops.
I group much of the pp by brand and then by the ones that match..
I keep all my special SC paper and things right at my desk, where I can touch and adore it......
Even though I have these great ways, I am still guilty of stacks on a shelf..hahaha....
I actually don't have a great way to store paper in once place. So I'll be reading comments to get ideas. Thank you, these ideas will help me out a lot.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I reorganized most of my paper. I keep my 12x12 papers in 12x12 trays by solid color or theme. My smaller papers are in hanging files the same way. Much easier for me to see what I have and where it is.
ReplyDeleteLike many others I use the Cropper Hopper vertical holders. They take up lots less space than storing horizontally on racks or shelves!
ReplyDeleteI'm a piler, too:) So one of my favorite ways to store my paper is in the 12x12 plastic containers (from Michaels on sale). I have a few stored by project/themes - Christmas, favorite new pp... It's great b/c it also fits embellies and it is all enclosed, so no dust and small pieces can't fall out. And if I want to work on that specific project, just take the 1 container!
ReplyDeleteI use a verticle hanging file system on wheels so you can take it where you need it. I love it! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI use the cropper hopper paper holders. I organize my paper by brand name. The only exception is I keep all the boy themed papers together and Christmas themed paper together.
ReplyDeleteMy paper storage is my only scrapbook storage system that has lasted the test of time!
I love the cropper hopper vertical holders for my cardstock. love being able to just thumb though it all. As for the paper paper, I have them organized by manufacure in the 12x12 paper trays by display dynamics.
ReplyDeleteI store my papers standing in a square shelf with vertical dividers (like bureau organizer, only big enough to hold 12x12 papers. I organize them by color, but the newest papers I keep aside, as I tend to look for them first. I love this system, and always find a paper that fits my wishes in a second, without having to take everything out. Good luck on your organizing!
ReplyDeleteVertical cropper hopper for Cardstock..by color.
ReplyDeleteAnd the rest, I store by 'kits'. Often that's just a line by a manufacturer, or kits like studio calico. If I can't fit a misc paper into a kit with other papers, then I don't need it. And I also have a pack of neutral color/style papers that could go anywhere. I put all these in 2 gallon ziplocks with tops cut off and store them in a bin vertically.
Oh, anything lumpy is in a separate ziplock, labeled to match the papers/flats and stored in a rubbermaid drawer. This enables me to pack the 'kits' more tightly without falling over. For crops, I just grab kits that would work with the photos and go.
I got a 12x12 paper organizer at target that has a bunch of slots. Then what I do is take those clear page protectors that go in 3 ring binders and I cut down one side of them. I stick each type of paper in there. The reason I do this is it keeps everything separated, and also so you can put the scraps back in the clear protector with the paper, so that nothing is wasted and everything is together!
ReplyDeleteI use Cropper Hopper paper holders. Cardstock is sorted by color. Patterned paper is sorted first by kit or manufacturer, but after I've used up most of that set, they get moved into a color-sorted system. Works pretty well for me!
ReplyDeleteI have my paper in a vertical paper holder I bought at Michaels and my designer paper is in a cart with 6 boxes that had lids and seperated by themes or colors and my scraps I have in folders sorted by colors. this works for me
ReplyDeleteGood luck in finding your perfect way
Mary Strauser
I also use the CH paper holders on their side in an IKEA cube unit. I also keep my kits in these cube units. I sort my paper (that is not in kits) by color. The cube units are right behind my table so everything is easy to get to.
ReplyDeleteI started out using old kit pizza boxes cut like the CH vertical files but they started to tear up and the Hobby Lobby had CH on clearance (!) so I bought a whole bunch! Now, my paper is by color and there is a solid and a patterned section for each color. I love it! I also have the narrower CH vertical files to separate the manufacturers that I like to keep together. I love my system. It just took a while to get it together!

ReplyDeleteI store my paper by Manufacturer - looking for other ideas though, because it gets to be quite a cluster going through it all!
ReplyDeleteIt might be easier to tell you how I DON'T organize my papers.
ReplyDeleteCropper Hopper is the way I go. I've got five of them lined up inside my scrappin closet.
ReplyDeleteI love Display Dynamics 12X12 Open stackable paper trays. I sort by brand, but however you sort paper, they are very nice. Jenny Craft carries them here http://www.jennycraft.com/Display-Dynamics-12x12-OpenLipless-Stackable-Paper/M/B001AP2UFC.htm
ReplyDeleteI use Cropper Hopper vertical holders with dividers that fit so well in my XXL. I sort my papers by manufacturers and label the dividers.
ReplyDeleteHi! Oh, can so totally relate on what a pain it is to find the right paper organizer. But I found that it's entirely up to your individual style. Some people have those paper racks in their scrap rooms, which I'm so jealous of. But the dust where I live would cover my papers in no time.
ReplyDeleteSo I use this:
http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat2051&PRODID=prd24450
Then I also have 2-3 12x12 clear envelopes where I place my most-often used papers and scraps according, roughly, by color -- reds, blues, greens, etc.
Good luck on the organizing. And it must be fun to gather all these ideas together and just find out what works best for you.
Good luck! =)
*hugs*
Nina
I dunno if this is gonna make it in time, but I use Legal sized crates with hanging folders in them. That way, you can thumb through all of your paper and organize them by folder. I really love it!
ReplyDeleteI store my solid-colored paper in a 7 drawer "cart", each drawer is about 14"x14", fit the 12x12 sheets perfectly (I have 2 of these) - I found these at Target
ReplyDeleteFor patterned paper I "try' to sort by color, the most prominent in the pattern. These I place in "magazine-holder" type containers, some are plastic and others are made of cardboard - these I get at IKEA
I'm not much help, Lorie. My stack looks pretty much the same as yours!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have mine in Cropper Hoppers separated with dividers, but I crop away from home a fair bit, so it all gets thrown in a 12x12 carry bin.
i use cropper hoppers too :) they are in one of my desk cabinets...but when my sweet husband makes the hutch for my desk, they'll be up above for easier access!
ReplyDeleteI use cropper hopper paperholders. My papers are sorted by brand cause that's easy for me to remember. Then I have a section for a couple of holidays.
ReplyDeleteI have my cardstock sorted bt color. For my patterned paper, I pull out a few manufacturers (like Basic Grey and Making Memories) as well as major themes (like Christmas and Halloween) and store those separately. Thhe rest is stored in 12x12 drawers by color.
ReplyDeleteI also use Cropper Hopper holders and their separators. I have one for the Bazzil basics sorted per colour. I have two other Cropper Hopper holders with patterned paper sorted per predominant colour and a couple of particular themes.
ReplyDeleteOkey dokey...I use a metal mesh crate that is approx. 13 x 13. It has casters, so I can roll it under my desk and out of my way. Inside the cube I have cropper hopper plastic file dividers and I sort them in color themes. One divider in front is for newly purchased paper as that is what I will use most often. Basically, the system works, but I am always looking for something better. Once every six months I go through and weed out paper I feel I won't use just to keep my paper contained and not overwhelming. I donate the paper to my cousin or a local preschool. I'm excited to read through everbody's answers for this. Hopefully, someone has the PERFECT system.
ReplyDeletei buy white paper organizers with four compartments. target and michael's (and some hobby lobbys) sell them. i normally wait until i have the 40% off coupons to buy them because they are like $35 at michael's. i use those to organize/separate cardstock. for my patterned paper, i use two different storage options. for companies i only have a few pieces from, i use upright magazine holders and marked dividers. for companies which i HOARD, i use martha stewart boxes (also from michael's) that i've dyed a darker color. i hope you upload LOTS of pix once you finish organizing!
ReplyDeleteI keep all my paper organized by manufacturer in Cropper Hopper vertical files. It's worked really well for me. Cardstock is sorted by color, and sometimes I think that would be good for patterned paper, too, but the thought of trying it is too overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of paper! I post my paper upright, usually separated by theme, so it's easy for me to find if I'm looking for paper to make a trip page, etc. I use the cropper hopper paper holders and divers for these.
ReplyDeleteI use the Cropper Hopper paper holders. They work pretty well. I am organizing my file cabinet with the sleeves to put the paper scraps by color. I love using the half sheets, etc on other layouts! :-)
ReplyDeleteAmy in CA
I have all my non SC paper in a paper storer but rarely use it!! I have the SC kit that I am using out on the desk next to me so that I can see all the papers together.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE my two file cabinets from Oriental Trading Co.- Store in style 12X12 file cabinets with haning files.
ReplyDeleteI store my patterned papers in the top one, cardstock and scraps in the bottom (everything is labeled of course.) I just love being organized.
I use my priority boxes I get in the mail cut them down like the cropper hopper, decorate and use to store my paper :)
ReplyDeleteI use Cropper Hopper paper holders for my 12 x 12 papers (I think I have 6 or 8 of them and they are nearly filled up)--some of it is organized by color and others by when I get it (so very little organization) or for certain projects.
ReplyDeleteI keep my new 8.5 x 11 cardstock separate on a shelf--they just sit upright and since they are solids it is easy to see and work with without much fuss. My white 8.5 x 11 cardstock I keep in a magazine file near my work table. I store my older cardstock and printed 8.5 x 11 in a wheeled plastic cart with numerous drawers by color. As one of the cart's wheels has popped off and is now propped up with a couple used books I have earmarked for altered books it is not ideal.
My scraps are in an overflowing plastic bin by my work table. I try to reach for that first when I am making something to try to use up some of those scraps if possible.
I actually like a little disorganization because I come across things I would otherwise have missed or ignored.
i keep my scraps in an envelop and some spare papers in an sc box. the papers i use often i put in ziploc bags by brand witha cardboard backign so they wont crumple and i can see the contents. don't knwo if it's good btu it works for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI use the Cropper Hopper paper holders. I like that my paper is standing up so I could easily flip through them to see what I have. I organize my paper by company because that is easier for me to find them. Then I have a few set up by themes (holdiay, travel, school, etc).
ReplyDeleteFILE CABINETS! and files to color coordinate!
ReplyDeletei use 'really use boxes' containers for my loose cardstock and papers, and stack the paper pads and packets on a shelf, in plain sight, by size. but for me, i always spend so much time drooling over the paper that i always know exactly what i have and where it lives. having the paper packets stacked on shelves keeps the paper flat and also adds lots of color to my craft room - whats more, if they are in plain sight, i am more likely to use them.
ReplyDeleteI use the clear stackable trays from scrapbook.com. They hold the 12x12 paper without any hanging over the side. Thats for my patterned paper.
ReplyDeleteMy cardstock is kept in the cropper hopper vertical storage and separated by color.
I also keep my projects in clear bags and they are stored vertically in my 14x14 cubes.
my storage works great for me.
thanks, ms.cheryl
I use these http://www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?V=1&Sec=1&Sub=1&PID=359 from Muji. Because they can store A4 files horizontally, they're the perfect size for 12x12 paper! And one of the best things is that they're plain kraft...great for prettying them up yourself however you want!
ReplyDeleteMine are kept in CH verticle storage bins, My CS is binder clipped by color, blue has a blue binder clip as seen here...http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/component/option,com_zoom/Itemid,28/page,viewproj/catid,22901/ My PP is in CHverticle storage too, but by colors and themes, all of these CH vert's are held in a milk crate for ease of mobility...It seems like a daunting task at the time, but once you go through your stash and get it all organized you will wish you did it sooner!
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE patterned paper. To keep everything organized I us the Iris storage system. It comes with individual plastic 12x12 storage boxes that slide right into standing carts (wheels detachable). I love how I can just pull out the boxes of paper (sorted by theme) when I do a layout. =)
ReplyDeleteI use the clear trays from Display Dynamics that attach to peg board. I have them grouped by company with labels. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI sort most by Mfg. and odds/ends....all in 12x12 hanging file folders w/ tabs typed up w/ name/color, etc. :-)
ReplyDelete~~Shelley
I use Cropper Hopper to store my cardstock by color. I store my patterned paper by manufacturer using 13x13 (?) Artbins.
ReplyDeleteI store my papers in 12x12 plastic drawers from Hobby Lobby. I have labels on the front of the drawers, and each drawer is sorted by type. one drawer for 'girly' papers, one drawer for 'spring & floral' papers, etc.
ReplyDeleteI use 12 x 12 folders inserted into 12 x 12 hanging file folders. I store them in two wide hanging file cabinet drawers from IKEA. The metal racks in the drawers were designed for standard size paper but the drawer/cabinet was plenty big enough for scrapbook paper. My husband made a couple of simple metal inserts to lift the hanging racks up 2 inches. Voila! They are now perfectly adapted for 12 x 12 scrapbook paper.
ReplyDeleteI use the clear trays from Display Dynamics--go on peg board. Have them labeled by company and LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI use the clear trays from Display Dynamics--go on peg board. Have them labeled by company and LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI use the clear trays from Display Dynamics--go on peg board. Have them labeled by company and LOVE IT!
ReplyDeletei uses those wire cube-y things that i have zip tied together. cardstock arranged by roy-g-biv, papers not quite so well arranged, but i seem to be able to locate everything well. i also use those thin 12x12 files that have a flap that you can close and the 12x12 plastic clear boxes to organize kits, thoughts, and other randoms papers
ReplyDeleteAlissaG
Another vote for cropper hopper vertical storage unit. Pattern paper is divided by mfg, or theme (holiday stuff), cardstock fits in nicely too. I even have room for the large 12x12 sheets of cardstock and sticker alpha's . I keep mine right on my desk...like having it at my finger tips :)
ReplyDeleteUgh...mine is all over the place. I do have a bunch of cropper hoppers, but I use anything and everything!
ReplyDeleteikea file drawers .... the best and they look wonderful in my office!
ReplyDeleteI use the Cropper Hopper paper holders. I have them laying on their sides where I could easily take out what I need. My cardstock & pattern paper are in their own paper holder & organized by color using the ROYGBIV method.
ReplyDeleteI use the CH vertical paper holders! I also store my pp by manufacturer, for me its the easiest way to look for and find what I need! i do, however, like the idea of storing pp by color!
ReplyDeleteI store mine in Legacy Crafters Work-in-Progress Display Folders. There are 30 pages per book and I store mine in Manufacturer order.(two to a page) I can pull out the Manufacturer I like and then flip through the pages and see each piece. I also have one angled shelf that I put my newest papers on with a little showing of each paper. This can hold up to 100 papers.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not the cheapest option but I have and love storage from www.scrapncube.com. Awesome scrapbook storage. I have a studio station with project drawers that hold all my paper. Their system of using expandable file folders works really well for me.
ReplyDeleteI store mine in Cropper Hopper paper holders. I usually sort by color and have folders for specialty paper. I'm not sure if this really works or not. I still spend too much time looking for what I want.
ReplyDeleteWell, I - like a lot of people - store my paper vertically, so I can look through it easier.. It's in a big box sitting beside my working table and it's organized by manufacturer mostly. Additionally, I have a wooden box, where all the kits go into, so I have them together... The system really works well for me :)
ReplyDeletei store mine in tubs, but it doesn't really work for me. christine middlecamp posted on her blog that she uses this rolling cart (http://www.cropperhopper.com/hangingfiletrolley.aspx) from cropper hopper to store her patterned paper. i'm definitely going to switch to that.
ReplyDeletei plan to store my cardstock in a plastic tub on the shelf on the bottom of the cart.
i hope you find a solution that works for you! i've tried several, so i'm happy to finally have an idea that will be perfect. :]
I store my papers on company en my cardstock on colour and keep them in pizzaboxes. I think the Cropper Hopper should be a great idea for me. Thanks for all the idea's.

I use of combination of cropper hopper paper holders and plastic sleves. the cropper hopper are for my cardstock, whereby i can sort the papers by colors. and the plastic sleves are for all the pattern papers by brand/collection. i also put little tabs on each sleve in order to flip through and find the right collection.
ReplyDeletejust separate by company and by collection
ReplyDeleteAnd for the "isolate" ones : by color (or dot paper, stripes paper)...
not very clever

cropper hopper paper holders-- going vertical with my paper storage has changed my life- no joke.
ReplyDeleteI keep my paper in a 7 drawer unit under my desk. I love it! Each of the drawers slides out and has a cover for easy transportation to crops and such. They are separated by brand.
ReplyDeleteLori - here is a link that may work for you - Its from Ali Davis' blog http://allisonrdavis.blogspot.com/2009/03/new-me.html
ReplyDeleteI would like to improve on what I have now. I have clear trays separated by manufacturer but there are some mfrs that share a tray. I have a shelf for papers that are current but don't have a mfr tray.
ReplyDeleteWondering about teh Cropper Hopper dividers and trying to separate my mfrs pps into collections.
I have a quite simple system for my paper storage. For the Bazzills, I have them sorted by colour in a cardboard box. As for my patterned papers, I use the same system in a Cropper Hopper. They are sorted by colour independently of brand because I am more focused on colour than brand ;)
ReplyDeleteFor leftovers smaller tha lettersize or 6x12 I have an other Cropper Hopper with plastic pockets for each colour.
I also recently gave away a pile of papers to the kindergarten. The kids were happy and I was happy :) It's a good thing when I have things I know I will never use... kids love all kinds of craft-stuff :o)
Put some pictures in my blog.

I use Cropper Hopper scrap paper folders for patterned paper that I have several pages of a collection. Other than that, I file it vertically in file folders so its easy to flip though and see what I have.
ReplyDeleteI store my paper in an Ikea newspaper holder thingy, it was really cheap and is just slightly bigger than 12x12. It is made from really nice wood. Sometimes I organise paper by colour, kit or manufacturer in these 12x12 bags that the paper ordered from online shops comes in.
ReplyDeletei submitted... and bought the rack they have in the store. but i can't say i have ever felt so organized. love them!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple large handeled expandale file folders. cs sorted by color in one, pp sorted loosely by color in another. All of my paper paks, kits, stacks, etc are in a crate by mfg. it is okay, but always looking to improve.
ReplyDeleteCardstock goes in plastic trays that Michael's used to sell (and when they were discontinuing them they were cheap cheap!) and patterned paper goes in vertical Cropper Hopper paper holders, organized first according to colour, then according to pattern (hearts, floral, stripes, etc.)
ReplyDeleteSimple but works great for me!
Wow, you have alot of paper..lucky you:) I don't have that much pattern paper so I keep them in 2 12x12 plastic folders. I have 1 that is full with all my nice papers, and 1 that is halffull with older papers I don't like that much. I also try to use as much as I buy, so I won't need another folder later..hehe. My Bazills are sorted on color in a 12x12 archive folder. Scrappaper I keep in an empty "pizzabox" I once got from a scrapstore.
ReplyDeleteOh boy. I WANT to be an organized, neat-nik type of person, but am SO NOT. I hope to find some good ideas here.
ReplyDeleteI was using the cropper hoppers for vertical paper storage and that worked great when I had an average stash of paper. My stash is growing and because of a move my space is shrinking. I am currently trying to brain-storm with my husband for a solution.
I use cube storage that has paper slots. I store it vertically there...love having it there to thumb through.
ReplyDeleteI use Cropper Hopper - I have several. One is for holidays and specialty patter paper and randoms. The other one I sort by Mfg/collection. I do more cardmaking so I have a 8.5 x 11 vertical wire paper shelf (like the ones you see at M's) That's fun to have! My issue is w/ SCRAPS! They take over every surface!!
ReplyDeleteWith regular purges, I maintain my paper stash in a file drawer by manufacturer and sorted by color. It's worked for me so far!
ReplyDeleteMine are stored by manufacturer in Cropper Hopper holders, too. I keep one just for papers I bought with a specific project in mind. Cardstock is stored the same way, divided by color shade (ROYGBIV... I'm a child of the 70's!)
ReplyDeleteI store mine in a plastic, 3- drawer bin that I got at walmart ... they lay flat and I have them sorted by color ... I have three of them ... the size is 13 x 13
ReplyDeleteCropper Hopper vertical organization all the way! I love them!!!
ReplyDeleteHonestly though, what really helped my organization was to stick to just SC kits. The kits all stay together in CH 4 pocket organizers and the only extra paper I buy is normally cardstock or for special projects I use right away.
Cropper Hopper holders and libraries by brand for the most part. There are a few exceptions e.g. specialty paper and holiday papers they all get lumped together.
ReplyDeleteI store all my patterned paper separately from my cardstock. They're in clear plastic drawers, separated by manufacturer!
ReplyDeletei'm probably way too late to get in on this one, but I am a huge fan of the cropper hopper vertical storage for my paper. Most of it is by manufacturer or theme, and some is by color.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby actually built me a 30 slot wooden 12x12 paper holder...I'm a bit spoiled!
ReplyDeletejenniferlynnhansen@yahoo.com
I do like you... no organization...
ReplyDeletebouhhhhhhh
i use the 12x12 plastic boxes you find at Michaels and sort by manufacturer and then by line.
ReplyDeleteI use Cropper Hopper, and have my paper organized by color for cardstock and patterned paper. My paper gets out of control too, I had to work on my stack last night and get it filed.
ReplyDeleteI have slim cropper hopper holders with dividers for the papers I use most often, they are arranged mostly by collection/manufacturer or color for single sheets. The rest of my papers are in expandable organisers in a wooden box that serves as a table for my sewing machine, easy to access when I need them but neatly hidden away.
ReplyDeleteI use cropper hopper paper holders. I have one for cardstock organized by color. I have one for random patterned paper organized by color. I have one for girl papers. This one is organized in sets of papers that coordinate for a page, I do another one for boy and holidays. It works great for me. I mix company's papers so I use more that way and have a more unique look!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love my Cropper Hopper cart loaded with their paper holders. All my patterned paper is sorted by manufacturer and cardstock by color (ROYBGIV). This system works great for me and makes it easy to find what I'm looking for. Of course, it takes some time to get new paper out of the pretty pile that I make when I bring it home and into the right holder. :)
