You need a bag of pretzel rods (the large ones, not those skinny little sticks!), a 1-lb bag of semi-sweet chips, a smaller bag of white chips, a pastry brush, wax paper, a fondue pot (or just a microwaveable bowl or two), and some Valentine sprinkles (I got all the sprinkles in the Valentine section at Target...pretty, pretty!)
You can either microwave the semi-sweet chips to melt them or just pop them all in a fondue pot set on low. Mine melted right away in the fondue pot and it was large enough for my 4 year old to help dip. :) Get a piece of wax paper ready and then just start dipping the pretzel rods in the chocolate. You kind of have to use a spoon to really slather them with the chocolate, leaving a little end to hold onto of course! I did like 6-7 at a time, laid them on the wax paper and then popped them in the freezer for 5 minutes or so. Then did another batch. Once they are all coated with the semi-sweet chocolate and set, you can start making them pretty.
Melt some of the white chips in the microwave. You don't need nearly as much of the white chips as the semi-sweet. You can use the melted white chips to drizzle a pretty pattern or to do have white/half dark, or whatever you like. Pop in freezer for a few minutes to set.
To use the cute Valentine sprinkles, you need the pastry brush. I dipped the brush in the melted semi-sweet chocolate and painted the set pretzels with it. You just need a thin layer this time to get the sprinkles to stick to the thicker layer on the pretzel. Then, dip and roll in the sprinkels. Pop in freezer for a few minutes to set again.
And that's it! After they are all set, you can package them in little cellophane bags, tie a bow, add a tag, include a handmade card, etc. Here's what I made...
Super easy and let me tell you...these are SO YUMMY! Wouldn't you love to get a little bag of these? ;) You could also dip them first in melted peanut butter chips or mint chips or add chopped nuts if you like...anything goes!
And just so you don't forget that this is a scrappy blog and not the joy of cooking... check out this amazingly gorgeous page by this month's guest designer, Robyn Werlich. I LOVE the way she mixed in pink with some Home Front! And that title... love, love, love! Enjoy!
oh yummy! ... AND Robyn, you just rock!
ReplyDeleteI made some of these for Christmas and they were a big hit then. :) I used a mug to melt my chocolate in so I could tilt the mug and get the pretzel coated better.
