Sunday Sketch

This sketch, brought to us by Jenn Olson is a play on a classic grid. You can make it as intricate or simple as you like, just have fun!

Note how Jenn used a die-cut paper as a mask for mist to create the background of her layout. It adds interest to what would have been a squared-off page. The main portion of her page is comprised of 5 rectangles and a photo. Simple design, but a dramatic look, don't you think?

Let's see what you can do with this sketch. Simply use it as a jumping off point or copy it entirely, we don't care as long as you link us to your layouts on this blog post by Saturday night. Then, we'll choose two winners on Sunday for a $5 gift card each. Have fun!

Layout of the Week

The layout of the week is brought to you by Ania-Maria Wolniak (ania-marie).
Each week, the layout in the gallery is linked, so you can add it to your favorites easily.

This layout has been added to your favorites more than any other layout in the SC community gallery for the week of 3/7-3/13.

Congratulations Ania! Because of this you have won a $10 gift card to be used on any new purchase at Studio Calico.

Want a chance to win next week? Be sure to upload your projects to the SC gallery, and support your community by adding special projects that catch your eye into your favorites! It could be YOU next week!

Please note, winners are not allowed to win more than once in a four-week period.
Winners are not limited to those using Studio Calico kits.

Baker's Dozen Layouts, The Sequel

I know you all got a dose of Baker's Dozen last week, but I thought I'd pick out a few more lovely layouts to give you some inspiration before your scrappy weekend begins.

Let's kick it off with this one from wlsdrew. I love the short title, the masking tape, the circles and the tiny bit of journaling. Oh, and all of that white space too! :)

I love all of the different pictures in this layout by Naomi M. She used so many lovely little bits and I can't get over how cute those teeny flowers are.

I also really love this page by rmoliverio. I love her use of a subtle background combined with that bright teal paper, and the picture of the child's drawing pulls it all together.

I've been a big fan of Yuko for a long time, and this layout is no exception. I love the whitewashing, the misted doilies, the super cute pictures and all of the bright colors.

Hope this inspires you to get lots done this weekend!

Anthology Love from Lisa

Hi all! Today I'm going to share this lovely layout that Guest Designer, Lisa Dickinson, created using Anthology.
How adorable are those flowers she created? And with the rub on button centers?! Perfection!

Have a great weekend!! :)

Wednesday Tutorial - Paint Splatters

I know this is going to seem really easy, but this is one of THE most asked questions about my layouts lately.

First, gather a cup, a basic paintbrush, some craft paint like this from Making Memories, or any other acrylic paint like Claudine Hellmuth's Studio line. Also, have some water on hand.

Next, add just a little paint to your cup. Once you have the amount of paint you want, depending on your project, add just a little water to thin it out. Always add water to your paint, because if you begin with too much water, you'll waste a lot of paint trying to get it to the right consistency.

Mix up the paint and water, then go to town. You can also use a toothbrush for this, and bend the bristles back to splatter paint in all different directions.

Once you're done splattering, and the paint has dried finish decorating your piece with mists and stamps. I used Sunflower Yellow, Orange, and the awesome vintage airplane stamp from the Studio Calico shop.

Then you're done! Add this technique to gifts, art journals and layouts :)

Tuesday Inspiration

While I'm currently filling out the application to purchase our rental home... I can't help to think of all the things I want to do inside as soon as it is officially ours, so I wanted to share a few home inspiration photos today.

Some of these photos are saved to my hard drive, so I don't have links to give credit.. If you see one and know where it came from, please let me know so I can link them up.

This first one is a project I've had on my list for a while. I love how simple a coat of yellow paint over some ceiling medallions can make a dramatic wall display. And the yellow and greyish tan SO reminds me of Studio Calico! :)

Love the aqua wall here.. and that arrangement of photos and letters... not to mention that bold black and white pillow on the sofa.

This one was featured on Decor8 here. That large frame is full of images of children's artwork. Makes me want to do this with my little man's art.

This next series was also featured on Decor8. The chalkboard door.. check! Well, I didn't do it on a door, but on a four foot wide wall in our dining room. I like it a lot (and so does the four year old!)

Hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week! :)

Challenge - Make a List

Hi! Kimmie and I are hosting the blog this week, and I'm starting out with a challenge for you.

I love making lists. I make them all the time, even if I don't always end up using them. This week's challenge is to make a list. Long or short, serious or funny, use a list somewhere in your scrapbooking.

I did this layout using a list and a little Studio Calico Anthology.

So make a list on a NEW layout, and link it up by next Saturday, March 13th at midnight EST for a chance to win a $5 gift certificate to the Studio Calico shop!

Steph W.

Sunday Sketch

This weeks' sketch is based on a layout by Susan Weinroth and features 3 photos plus lots of room for journaling.

Each photo is approximately 3x4". You can use these photos to show a progression of events, or like Susan did, document a single event.

We hope you'll play along with us this week.

Simply make a layout based on the sketch (we're not picky, loose interpretations apply). Then, upload the layout and give us the link in a comment on this thread.

2 winners will be randomly chosen to win a $5 Studio Calico gift card. You have until Saturday night to link, winners are chosen promptly on Sunday morning.
