Tutorial: making your own page protectors

Hi everyone! I'm back with a quick tutorial :)

When I started this mini [using Documentary] I wanted to use page protectors for my pictures but couldn't find anything that fit (the album size is ~3.5 x 4.75)

so i made my own :)

[supplies: 8.5 x 11 page protectors, paper trimmer, hole punch, scissors, ruler, pen, 1" loose-leaf rings]
  • start with a regular 8.5x11 page protector
  • measure your album cover
  • mark the sheet protector (so you know where to sew ;))
  • sew 2 vertical lines (3.5" wide each) to create the pockets
  • cut out the pockets. for this particular album you'll end up with 2 double pockets
  • punch holes and add them to your album
And that's it. Please let me know if you have any questions and have a great weekend.

what a creative idea! I just was wondering, do you know if you can purchase 8.5x11 page protectors that are scrapbooking safe (no acid, etc)? thx so much for sharing. :)

Fabulous post! I'd seen this post quite a while ago, used the idea the other night, then saw a link to this on Pinterest! I thought my friends and fellow scrappers would love it too, so I featured it today on my Scrapbook Wonderland Facebook page as 'Today's Scrapbook Wonder'.

Here's my share if you'd like to check it out!

Please explain it to me in lamens terms!! LOL!! If I sew 2 vertical lines down, then there's 3 pockets, right? So you don't use the one on the left with the 3 holes along the side that are for a regular size album? And then you've still got 2 11" vertical strips, with the opening at the top, so that would make a tall book??!!! What am I not getting? I'm usually good with these things and just can't figure out how you're getting to the final product!! Do you then cut the vertical slips in half? But then you'd end up with 4 and 2 would have openings at both ends??? Please help me understand, I really like this idea!!

Surely to get two double pockets you'd need to sew along horizontally to the height of the pocket from the bottom of the protector (or just a bit taller to allow to cut below it) to make two double, or the one above the bottom would be open both ends, as the commenter above mentioned? Understand the vertical sewing but just want to understand how you'd get two lots if you don't sew a horizontal line too, thanks. Really great idea btw. X
